For 34 years, Health Care Partners of South Carolina has been meeting the medical and health needs of the underserved and persons without medical insurance in the Horry County and the Pee Dee region. Dr. Covia Stanley, former director of DHEC’s Region Six Public Health Office, is a member of the Health Care Partners board of directors. Bhakti Larry Hough interviews Dr. Stanley about the services the nonprofit organization offers.

Several South Carolina schools recently won national recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for Fighting Childhood Obesity. Southside Middle School of Florence was among them. Bhakti Larry Hough interview the school’s wellness coordinator, Michelle Hayes, about measures the school took to win the award.

Insight #64 This edition of Insight is about the Five Years Too Many campaign featured in our previous post of yesterday. Host, Bhakti Larry Hough, interviews Anthony Vance, Director of the US Baha'i Office of Public Affairs, and  Iraj Kamalabadi, the brother of one of the ad hoc leaders that are in prison in Iran. The program also includes excerpts from the Five Years Too Many event held May 6th in Washington DC: Rainn Wilson, actor (Dwight Schrute, from the TV program, The Office) and Roxana Saberi, journalist and author, who was imprisoned in the same cell as the two female members of the Yaran. Community Resilience is a term used to describe a community's ability to respond quickly and effectively to and bounce back quickly from a natural or man-made disaster. Williamsburg County recently launched its Community Resilience Initiative to review its current state of disaster readiness and gather information from county residents about areas in which they feel secure and those in which they feel vulnerable - to fires, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, hazardous waste spills, terrorist attacks, etc.

On the current edition of Insight, Bhakti Larry Hough interviews Williamsburg County Emergency Management and E-911 director Tiffany Cooks about the initiative.

Mrs. Wilhelmina P. Johnson, Executive Director - CRC INC.

For 40 years, the Cultural Realism Complex (CRC) in Darlington has served Darlington County with a variety of programs for youth and community development and historic preservation. The force behind CRC is Wilhelmina P. Johnson, a retired educator and Darlington County Councilwoman, who started CRC as Cultural Realism Charm in 1973. Bhakti Larry Hough interviewed Johnson about CRC and African American history in general on the current edition of Insight.

Joseph McGill, Jr., a native of Kingstree now living in the Charleston area, eats, breathes and sleeps African American history - literally. McGill is the founder of the nearly three-year-old Slave Dwelling Project, during which he has slept in 38 former slave cabins in 12 states to draw attention to the existence of the structures and to pay tribute to his enslaved ancestors. In March, McGill will sleep in a former slave dwelling at Hopsewee Plantation in Georgetown County. Bhakti Larry Hough interviews McGill about the Slave Dwelling Project on the current African American History Month special edition of Insight.
