The Georgetown Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will hold its annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scholarship banquet, Saturday, January 18, at 7:06pm, at the Glisson Center, Bethel AME Church Georgetown. People to People of Hartsville will hold its annual MLK Commemorative Service on Monday, Jan. 20 at 12 noon at Kay Branch Baptist Church, 1801 N. Fifth St. Writer and radio personality and talk show host Bhakti Larry Hough, program director for WLGI-FM 90.9 FM (Radio Baha'i) of Hemingway, will be the keynote speaker. Francis Marion University and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce will host the 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Thursday, January 16th. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the McNair Science Building’s Chapman Auditorium. The overall sponsor for this free event is McLeod Health. The keynote speaker is Re. Gilda Cobb-Hunter – S.C. Coastal Carolina University will celebrate the struggles and triumphs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Wednesday, January 15th, from 7-9 p.m. at the Wheelwright Auditorium. This campus wide event celebrates unity and diversity. The Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors (Gospel Choir) will also be a part of this celebration. The Carolina African American Heritage Foundation is hosting its Freedom Rally during Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, Jan. 18 through 20, 2014. A weekend of events will include a Carolina talent search MLK tribute, a corporate and community awards breakfast, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. For 34 years, Health Care Partners of South Carolina has been meeting the medical and health needs of the underserved and persons without medical insurance in the Horry County and the Pee Dee region. Dr. Covia Stanley, former director of DHEC’s Region Six Public Health Office, is a member of the Health Care Partners board of directors. Bhakti Larry Hough interviews Dr. Stanley about the services the nonprofit organization offers.

Several South Carolina schools recently won national recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for Fighting Childhood Obesity. Southside Middle School of Florence was among them. Bhakti Larry Hough interview the school’s wellness coordinator, Michelle Hayes, about measures the school took to win the award.

Today we will be playing a special hour-long show about Nelson Mandela, the recently-departed former President of South Africa and civil rights icon. The program will air at 10:00 AM, 7:00 PM, and again at midnight.

"Ideas: The Mandela Tapes" was produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and features interviews with Mandela and stories about Mandela from people who knew him.

Recently Winamp's parent company, AOL, announced that the service would no longer be available after December 20. If you have been using Winamp to listen to Radio Baha'i online, you will still be able to listen to us using the application, but some other features of Winamp will no longer work, and it will no longer be available for download.

You can also listen to Radio Baha'i using other programs, like Windows Media Player, iTunes and VLC. Remember that sometimes it can take more than a minute for these applications to connect and start playing music. See this post for instructions.
