We were able to greatly improve the sound of Radio Baha'i over the past week, both on air and streaming, and we brought back the RDS data on your radio by replacing several pieces of equipment that were old and not performing well any more.

We now have a much better sound on air and in our live stream. The station is more crisp sounding, more open, and with some serious thump to it. The vocals are clear and sharp, and the announcers are easier to understand.

We also have greatly improved our ability to send out the song data to your RDS capable car radio, if you have one. We had some of this capacity before, but it was limping and it finally broke. You can see the song title and artist, and find our basic contact information: phone number, website, and email (on some radios you may need to press the Message button to see this). If your radio allows it, we can also keep your car's clock on accurate time.

We are also slowly building our capacity for staying on the air, both streaming and broadcast, when there is a power outage. We won't be able to manage full transmitter output on backup power, that would take a seriously large and expensive generator. In a few weeks, though, we'll be able to continue to live stream on the Internet without interruption, and within a year or so, we'll be able to run a low power transmitter for over the air broadcasts in emergencies.

Please tell us what you think of the new sound and RDS data on Facebook and Twitter.

Live streaming Radio Baha’i, WLGI is now easier, with better quality, and is more mobile friendly than ever. We have just completed a significant upgrade to our live streaming system, with you in mind. We have a new player that will stream the station in your browser with two streaming bandwidths to choose from.

Try it out, let us know what you think, and share with your friends. After all, we can’t help you with building spiritual communities if people in your community aren’t listening.

New Player
The browser based player means you no longer need other software, like Windows Media Player, VLC, or iTunes to stream Radio Baha’i on your computer, and you no longer need to use TuneIn on your mobile device. You can, of course, keep using those if you want.

Scan this with a QR code scanner and the player will open automatically in your mobile device.

The player will launch a new browser window that displays the album art, artist and song title for the current song, and displays the artist and title for the last five songs or programs that were played. The player will automatically choose the best stream coding for your computer, phone or tablet, and browser. You can then choose the bandwidth that works for you from the drop down menu. “WLGI High” will give you the best sound (48 kbps), while “WLGI Low” will use the least amount of your data plan (24 kbps), or work best with slow data speeds.

We suggest that when you are on wifi or connected by cable of some kind to the Internet, use the “WLGI High” stream. If you are on a mobile device on the cellular network, or if you are experiencing any drop outs, then choose “WLGI Low”.

Some people might prefer to use the mobile version of the player on your desktop/laptop computer. If you click on the link here, it will force the mobile version to load.

Tell us about any problems you see - this is a beta test and we need your feedback to get it right.

We have received emails from a number of people letting us know about a problem with streaming. We made some changes over the weekend to improve our website, but in the process we broke the streaming. We are very sorry about this.

If you are using TuneIn to receive the stream, we are working with them to fix the problem as soon as possible. This may take several days, though.

If you are using a dedicated media player, or using your browser, the stream should still work. If not, please reconnect by clicking on streaming.wlgi.org and a new new tab will open and the live.m3u file will be downloaded. Find this file in your downloads and open it with your media player. Or, if you use your browser to listen, the file stream should start playing after a short delay.

We have updated our Streaming page and the links on it to reflect the recent changes.

Email us if you are still having problems, or call us toll free (in the US) at: 866-501-WLGI (9544)

Radio Baha'i, WLGI is back up to full power as of late afternoon Monday. The air conditioner was replaced with an excellent unit that should last for years, and it is doing a great job of cooling. In fact, I may need to keep a jacket in the transmitter building now.

The silver lining of operating at very low or low power for 3 weeks is that it pushed us to launch online streaming. So now, if you live within our broadcast area you can listen on a regular radio, listen on your computer at home or at work, or listen on your smart phone or tablet. So many choices!!

If you live or travel outside of the FM coverage area, then take us with you via online streaming.

Please spread the word that we are back on the air at full power, and that your friends and family can listen to us online as well, wherever in the world they are (as long as they have Internet access, and some kind of computer or mobile device).
